More UK Clampdowns on “dodgy” Firesticks
UK Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Streaming in Nationwide Operation
UK authorities have intensified their crackdown on illegal streaming, targeting individuals suspected of selling modified Amazon Fire TV Sticks and illegal IPTV services. As part of a nationwide operation, police and fraud investigators visited 30 locations across the UK, resulting in one arrest and multiple seizures of illegal streaming devices.
In Newport, South Wales Police arrested a 42-year-old man accused of selling modified Firesticks and IPTV subscriptions. During the raid, officers seized numerous digital devices, including several Firesticks, which are now undergoing forensic examination. The suspect remains under investigation and may face criminal charges.
The two-week operation spanned from London to North Yorkshire, with local police forces working alongside fraud investigators to track down sellers operating from their homes. Authorities emphasize that illegal streaming is being treated as a serious offense, with sellers now a high-priority target.
Additionally, authorities have warned that users of illegal IPTV services could also face repercussions, highlighting the growing risks associated with these platforms.
This arrest underscores how what might seem like a minor, home-based operation can lead to significant legal consequences. With the UK stepping up efforts to combat digital piracy, both sellers and users of illegal streaming services face heightened scrutiny.
FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) CEO Kieron Sharp said :
“Our cease-and-desist measures are not just warnings – they are the first step toward holding offenders accountable. Many who ignored these notices in the past are now facing arrest and criminal charges.”
Sharp also highlighted the risks for users: “These services often expose users to malware, scams, and data theft, with no recourse when things go wrong.”
