Sky Sports sign new 5 year PDC Darts Contract
Sky Sports has reportedly secured an exclusive £125 million broadcasting deal with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), continuing its role as the home of premier darts events since 1993.
The deal, more than double the value of the previous agreement, ensures at least 64 days of live darts annually, covering events such as the World Championship, Premier League Darts, and the World Matchplay. The expanded World Championship will include 128 players, adding four extra days of coverage.
This significant investment reflects darts’ growing popularity, with Luke Littler’s historic victory at age 17 drawing a peak audience of 3.1 million viewers. Sky faced stiff competition from Netflix and Amazon during the bidding process, highlighting the sport’s rising global appeal. The deal cements darts as Sky’s second-largest sport after football.
The PDC is expected to use the additional revenue to boost prize funds, with Littler’s recent win earning him £500,000.
Alongside this agreement, the PDC plans to offer free-to-air rights for other tournaments, including the UK Open and Players Championship Finals, likely to be acquired by ITV. The deal marks a new chapter for darts, combining record-breaking investments and expanded coverage for fans worldwide.
