Freely Pleio from Netgem: How to install and set up
This video shows the full setup and installation of the Freely Netgem Pleio TV box, followed by a hands-on demo of the Freely interface and how it works in everyday use.
Starting from first power-up, the video walks through connecting the Netgem Pleio to the internet, completing the initial setup process, and getting Freely ready to use. Once installed, we explore the on-screen menus, navigation, and overall layout, giving you a clear idea of what the Freely experience looks like on the Pleio.
Freely is not just another streaming app — it’s a brand-new, free TV platform backed by Britain’s major public service broadcasters, including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. It was launched by Everyone TV, the organisation behind long-established free TV brands like Freeview and Freesat, with the aim of making free live and on-demand television easier to access on smart TVs and dedicated streaming devices like this Pleio box.
That backing matters. For the first time, four of the UK’s biggest broadcasters have united to deliver their live channels and on-demand content side-by-side in a single, free platform that doesn’t require a satellite dish, aerial or subscription. You can stream channels like BBC One, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 entirely over broadband — so long as you have a compatible TV or device.
Over time, Freely’s content line-up has expanded significantly. UKTV (known for channels like Dave and GOLD) has joined the platform, bringing its own live channels and catch-up content. Additional partners such as AMC Networks International UK, PBS America, GB News and QVC have added even more live channels and on-demand material — broadening the selection across genres including news, entertainment, lifestyle and shopping.
This rapid growth means Freely now offers a compelling alternative to traditional over-the-air broadcast systems (like Freeview) and even subscription streaming services. With tens of thousands of hours of content available — including classic UK programmes, iconic dramas, lifestyle shows, news and more — Freely brings the best of British television together for free, all in one place.
The Freely Netgem Pleio box you’re seeing here is one of the first dedicated plug-in devices designed specifically to deliver Freely to any TV. It’s aimed at people who want free live TV and on-demand content without having to upgrade to a Freely-enabled smart TV. In this video we walk through how to install and set up this device, connect it to your internet and start exploring the Freely interface. You’ll see how channels are presented, how on-demand shows are accessed, and how intuitive the navigation feels once everything is configured.
This video follows directly on from the Freely Netgem Pleio unboxing, where we take a first look at the box and explain what Freely is, without revealing the contents. If you haven’t seen that yet, it’s worth watching first — a link is included below.
If you’re considering the Freely Netgem Pleio, already own one, or simply want to see how the setup and interface work before committing, this installation and demo video shows exactly what to expect.

Will the Pleio box work in Spain with smartdns or do I need a VPN?
As you can see from the video, I have got it set up and working, and I am in Spain.
I was using a VPN on a router.
I have a further video checking out VPN on the box, VPN on a router, and a smartdns service, which will be released soon.
