BT Sport to Become TNT Sports – What Viewers Need to Know
BT Sport will officially become TNT Sports as part of a major rebrand of the UK sports broadcasting service. The change will mark the end of the BT Sport name after more than a decade on UK television screens, with the new TNT Sports branding launching ahead of the new football season.
The rebrand will form part of the joint venture between BT Group and Warner Bros. Discovery, the media giant that already owns Eurosport and a wide range of international television brands. The partnership was first announced in 2022 and will combine the sports broadcasting operations of BT Sport and Warner Bros. Discovery in the UK and Ireland.
For most viewers, the biggest visible change will simply be the channel name. BT Sport channels will be renamed TNT Sports, but many of the sports rights and presenters will remain the same.
Football fans will still be able to watch:
- Premier League matches
- UEFA Champions League
- Europa League
- Europa Conference League
- Premiership Rugby
- MotoGP
- UFC
- Boxing
- WWE
The channels will continue to operate across Sky, Virgin Media, EE and streaming platforms, although some apps and online services may gradually transition away from BT branding over time.
The move to TNT Sports will also bring BT Sport and Eurosport closer together under a single sports brand. Warner Bros. Discovery has already confirmed plans to integrate sports coverage more closely across its platforms, although Eurosport branding will initially remain in some areas before further consolidation takes place.
For existing BT Sport subscribers, the transition is expected to happen automatically. Most customers will not need to replace equipment or sign up again, with subscriptions simply continuing under the new TNT Sports branding.
Sky customers, Virgin Media users and EE subscribers should all see the channel names update automatically on their receivers and programme guides once the rebrand takes effect.
One area that may change more significantly is streaming.
Warner Bros. Discovery has increasingly pushed streaming services such as Discovery+ and, more recently, HBO Max as the future home for TNT Sports content. In the years following the initial rebrand, more sports programming has gradually shifted onto Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platforms.
This has caused some confusion among subscribers, particularly during the early months of the TNT Sports transition, with users reporting uncertainty over which apps would carry live sports and catch-up content. Discussions on Reddit and online forums showed many viewers were unclear whether BT Sport apps, Discovery+ or TNT Sports apps should be used following the rebrand.
Despite the new name, TNT Sports will effectively remain the continuation of BT Sport rather than an entirely new broadcaster.
BT Sport originally launched in 2013 as BT’s attempt to challenge Sky Sports dominance in premium UK sports broadcasting. Over the following decade, it secured major rights deals including Premier League football and exclusive UEFA Champions League coverage.
The switch to TNT Sports will represent the next stage in that evolution, with Warner Bros. Discovery bringing its international sports brands and streaming infrastructure into the UK market.
For viewers, the overall sports coverage will remain broadly familiar, even if the logo and branding on screen changes significantly.
The TNT Sports name may be new to many UK viewers, but the live football, rugby, boxing and motorsport coverage will continue much as before — simply under a different brand name.
