Netflix and Sky announce price increases for UK users
Netflix has announced price increases for its packages in the UK, with two packages increasing by 18%
Sky has also announced its planned price increases starting in April, with each customer set to receive an email outlining the specific changes to their package, with an average increase of approximately 6%.
Most services will see a price hike, except for social broadband, Essential TV, and mobile tariffs. On average, bills will rise by 6.2%, though the exact increase depends on the services subscribed to. This jump is more than double the current 2.5% CPI inflation rate.
For TV subscribers, the Sky Signature package will increase by £4. Some Sky Stream users report a £3 rise for Sky Sports, while the Sky Kids package is increasing by £1. However, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema packages appear unaffected for some users.
Meanwhile, rival providers like Vodafone, EE, and Virgin Media have implemented flat-rate price hikes, meaning customers on lower-cost plans face steeper percentage increases compared to those on premium bundles.
Netflix has also announced UK price increases. The ad-supported Standard plan now costs £5.99 per month (up 20%), while the ad-free Standard plan rises to £12.99 (up 18%). The Premium plan, now £18.99 per month, has seen a smaller 5.5% increase, reflecting a broader trend of higher percentage increases on budget-friendly plans.
