The Mascletá on March 19th in Gandia is one of the biggest highlights of the Fallas festival. It’s the final build-up to the Cremà (when the fallas monuments are incinerated), and it offers an insane mix of noise, rhythm, and tradition. Held at noon on Avinguda del Marqués de Campo, beside Gandia Train Station, it’s well-attended by big crowds who go there to feel the earth shake beneath their feet.

It starts with smaller firecrackers and builds up, getting progressively louder and more intense, until the “Terremoto” (earthquake effect), when hundreds of explosions are fired off in the space of seconds. The Mascletá on the 19th of March in Gandia is even more exceptional because it’s to celebrate Saint Joseph’s Day, the patron saint of carpenters, and also the high point of the Fallas festivities. La Mascletá del 19 de marzo en Gandía es uno de los momentos más destacados de las Fallas. Es el preludio final a la Cremà (cuando se incineran los monumentos falleros) y ofrece una mezcla alucinante de ruido, ritmo y tradición. Se celebra al mediodía en la avenida del Marqués de Campo, junto a la estación de tren de Gandía, y cuenta con una gran asistencia de público que acude para sentir la tierra temblar bajo sus pies.

Una Mascletá no es un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales cualquiera; se trata de sonido e impacto. Empieza con petardos pequeños y va aumentando de volumen, haciéndose progresivamente más fuerte e intenso, hasta llegar al “Terremoto” (efecto terremoto), cuando se producen cientos de explosiones en segundos. ¿El resultado? Un muro de sonido que te retumba en el pecho.

La Mascletá del 19 de marzo en Gandía es aún más excepcional, ya que celebra el día de San José, patrón de los carpinteros, y también el momento álgido de las Fallas.
