We’re off to the Cremà of the Fallas in Gandia—the epic, fiery finale of this incredible festival! Every year on March 19, Saint Joseph’s Day, the festival wraps up with a massive bonfire as the fallas monuments go up in flames, symbolizing a fresh start and the passing of time.

The festivities begin on the 15th of March with the Plantà, where more than twenty fallas (there are smaller ones even for children) are found throughout Gandia. The big, brightly colored statues—constructed out of very combustible materials—are packed to the top with ninots (small puppets) satirizing politics, society, and the everyday world.

In the pre-Cremà days, the town is alive with concerts, mascletàs (extremely loud daytime firecrackers), and parades. And on March 19, there’s a mass for Saint Joseph and then one final mascletà in Town Hall Square.

When night falls, the party is really on! The Cremà starts with the burning of the fallas of the children around 9:00 PM, and then the rest, the large ones one by one. The winner of the grand prize falla is always the last to be burned, usually at 1:30 AM, marking the official end of the party.

In 2025, the Vilanova Falla took first prize in the Special Section for both its Children’s Monument and Main Monument, once again proving why it’s one of Gandia’s top fallas commissions.

The Cremà isn’t just the end of the festival—it’s a bittersweet time to look back, let go, and look forward to a whole new year of celebrations. Until next time, Fallas!

Nos vamos a la Cremà de las Fallas en Gandía, ¡el épico y ardiente final de esta increíble fiesta! Cada año, el 19 de marzo, día de San José, la fiesta concluye con una gran hoguera donde los monumentos falleros arden en llamas, simbolizando un nuevo comienzo y el paso del tiempo.

Las fiestas comienzan el 15 de marzo con la Plantà, donde se encuentran más de veinte fallas (hay algunas más pequeñas, incluso para niños) por toda Gandía. Las grandes estatuas de colores brillantes, construidas con materiales altamente combustibles, están repletas de ninots (pequeñas marionetas) que satirizan la política, la sociedad y la vida cotidiana.

En los días previos a la Cremà, la ciudad se llena de vida con conciertos, mascletàs (petardos diurnos extremadamente ruidosos) y desfiles. Y el 19 de marzo, hay una misa en honor a San José y luego una mascletà final en la Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Al caer la noche, ¡la fiesta empieza de verdad! La Cremà empieza con la quema de las fallas infantiles sobre las 21:00, y luego las grandes, una a una. La falla ganadora del gran premio siempre es la última en quemarse, normalmente a la 1:30, lo que marca el fin oficial de la fiesta.

En 2025, la Falla de Vilanova se alzó con el primer premio de la Sección Especial tanto por su Monumento Infantil como por su Monumento Principal, demostrando una vez más por qué es una de las principales obras falleras de Gandia.
