On September 27, 2025, the town of Bellreguard (Valencia) filled with music, color, and tradition as it celebrated its annual Moors and Christians festival. While both sides brought unforgettable pageantry, this year the Moorish army took center stage, led proudly by the filà Abdulaf as the 2025 Moorish captaincy.

Each year, one Moorish filà has the honor of carrying the captaincy, and in 2025 that honor went to Abdulaf. Known for their elegance and rich costumes inspired by Al-Andalus, they opened the Entrada Mora with a dazzling boato. Their display combined history and imagination: silks, turbans, flowing banners, and dramatic staging that evoked the grandeur of the medieval Moors.

The captaincy filà set the standard for the entire Moorish army, blending pageantry with pride. Spectators cheered as Abdulaf paraded at the head of their troops, accompanied by haunting Moorish marches that filled the streets with rhythm and energy.

Behind Abdulaf, the rest of the Moorish filaes created a spectacle of variety and unity. Bellreguard’s Moorish side includes groups such as Tuaregs, Kábilas, Abassies, Moros Verds, Moros Negres, Almoràvits, Piratas, Moriscos, Moros Marins, and more.

The embajadas dramatize the struggle for control of the town, with both sides exchanging speeches of conquest and defiance. The Moors traditionally take the castle first, symbolizing their arrival and dominance. In 2025, Abdulaf and the Moorish ambassadors delivered powerful performances, declaring their triumph with style and confidence.

Though the Christians reclaim victory in the final embajada, the Moorish conquest of the castle is always one of the festival’s most celebrated and dramatic moments.

The highlight of the Moorish side was, without doubt, the Entrada Mora. As evening fell, the Moorish filaes marched in waves of dazzling costumes: embroidered tunics, curved scimitars, ornate shields, and headpieces crowned with feathers and jewels. Their choreography combined strength and grace, turning the streets of Bellreguard into a living theater.

The boatos included camels, banners, and scenes inspired by Al-Andalus, with each filà offering its own interpretation of Moorish history and legend. The music added intensity, as the bands played evocative Moorish marches that contrasted with the solemn Christian style, filling the night with rhythm and passion.

The Moors were not only protagonists of the Entrada. During the week of fiestas, they animated the streets in informal parades, hosted visitors in their kábilas, and gave dramatic speeches in the embajadas. Their hospitality and flair for spectacle made them central to the festival atmosphere.

Si bien ambos bandos ofrecieron un espectáculo inolvidable, este año el ejército moro fue el protagonista, liderado con orgullo por la filà Abdulaf, capitanía mora de 2025.

Cada año, una filà mora tiene el honor de ostentar la capitanía, y en 2025 ese honor recayó en Abdulaf. Conocidos por su elegancia y sus ricos trajes de inspiración andalusí, inauguraron la Entrada Mora con un deslumbrante boato. Su despliegue combinó historia e imaginación: sedas, turbantes, estandartes ondulantes y una puesta en escena dramática que evocaba la grandeza de los moros medievales.

La filà de la capitanía marcó la pauta para todo el ejército moro, combinando pompa y orgullo. Los espectadores vitorearon mientras Abdulaf desfilaba a la cabeza de sus tropas, acompañado de evocadoras marchas moriscas que llenaban las calles de ritmo y energía.
