MGM and MGM HD Movie channel on Sky Uk
There have been various rumours that a new movie channels will soon be launched on the Sky UK package – expected to be channel 345 and 346.
It will be the MGM Movie channels, and there will also be a MGM HD channels also, showing the movies in HD.
Obviously being the MGM channel it will be showing movies from the MGM-owned catalogue of movies.
There has been no indication which package these new channels will be available on, ie Style and Culture mix (like TCM), the SKyMovies package, or another package.
The launch will have to be soon if they want to launch before Christmas, as Sky are freezing any EPG channels changes from the 15 December to early January 2010.
BSkyB and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have launched a high-definition film channel, the Hollywood studio’s first in the UK, to showcase the studio’s back catalogue.
The MGM HD channel, a joint venture between the two companies and the studio’s first branded channel in the UK, went on air this afternoon.
MGM’s channels are available in more than 130 countries, with recent launches including HD channels in the US, Latin America, Poland and Israel.
The channel will feature a full programme schedule, 24 hours a day and seven days a week, showcasing HD remastered movies from the MGM library.
Highlights on MGM HD in the coming months include films from The Pink Panther series, Woody Allen films such as Annie Hall and Manhattan as well as library titles such as The Apartment, Network and Moonstruck.
MGM HD launched on Sky channel 345 and is the 37th HD channel available to Sky’s 1.6 million HD viewers.
To get the channel, Sky customers need to subscribe to Dual Movies and the HD pack, or can pay �5 per month on an “a la carte” basis.
