Digital+: Spanish satellite subscriber decline continues
Spain’s satellite pay-TV operator Sogecable’s Digital+ has once again lost subscribers, following its continuous downturn since the beginning of 2008 when it had over 2 million clients. Now the operator has just over 1.8 million subscribers.
The new figures are a drop of 53.411 clients compared to the end of Q3 last year and 189,060 fewer clients than one year ago.
In spite of all this Sogecable had revenues of 1.525 million at the end of last year and a net profit of 90 million.
Some observers attribute Digital+’s subscriber downturn to the arrival of producer Mediapro’s pay-DTT channel Gol TV which contains premier soccer matches of the Spanish Soccer League. Gol TV competes directly with Sogecable’s soccer pay-TV channel Canal+Liga which has now some 700,000 clients while Gol TV has some more than 1 million subscribers.
D+ operates on both the Astra 19 east and Hispasat 30 West satellites
