Channel 4 wins rights to England’s European Qualifiers and UEFA Nations League matches
England’s matches in the UEFA Nations League, European Qualifiers to UEFA EURO 2024 and International Friendlies will be shown live on Channel 4.
Channel 4 will now broadcast all of England’s upcoming qualifying matches, having already secured the rights to the UEFA Nations League campaign involving games against Germany, Italy and Hungary this summer.
These UK rights to these matches are currently held by ITV.
Loss of them leaves a bit of a gap in ITVs football coverage…perhaps to be filled by a Champions League match??
The draw for the qualifying round of the 2024 European Championships, which will take place in Germany, is scheduled for Frankfurt on October 9 this year with England expected to be among the top seeds. The matches will then be played between March 2023 and 2024.
Six England games will be shown live on Channel 4 this year starting with their match against Hungary on 4th June, followed three days later with their away match against Germany on 7th June.
The deal struck by Channel 4’s sports team means that all England matches will be shown live on free to air television until 2024. And it will be the first time England UEFA Nations League games will be on free to air television. In total Channel 4 will broadcast 20 live England matches between 2022 to 2024.
The deal does not cover the rights to matches at this year’s World Cup in Qatar, which will be screened on the BBC and ITV.
