Sky Glass and Steam Down in Major Outage
In a significant disruption to Sky TV’s internet-based services, both Sky Glass and Sky Stream began experiencing widespread outages. These outages started on the night of September 19, 2024, leaving many users without access to their TV services.
Initial reports suggest there was a software update that cause the issues with Sky Glass and Sky Stream systems not powering on.
The problem continues to impact a large number of subscribers today. Sky Glass users have been particularly affected, with many reporting that their TVs won’t even power on, and some devices failing to show any power light despite attempts to reset them.
As a result, Sky Glass owners are currently unable to access any TV channels or services, including non-Sky content. Sky Stream users are facing similar issues, with devices unable to turn on and Sky channels remaining unavailable.
Sky Glass, launched in 2021, is a 4K TV with an integrated Sky streaming service, while Sky Stream is a standalone set-top box that streams content via broadband, without requiring a satellite dish.
Hundreds of frustrated users have voiced their complaints on social media and Sky’s forums, with many more likely affected but not publicly reporting the issue.
A Sky spokesperson said:
“Some Sky Glass and Stream customers are currently experiencing technical issues when trying to switch on their devices.
“Our teams are working hard to fix this. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
Sky issued another statement later in the day, with a possible solution:
“We are sorry that some Sky Glass and Stream customers are currently experiencing issues when trying to switch on their devices.
We advise those customers to manually restart to resolve the issue.”
Sky have produced a webpage to help users of Sky Glass and Sky Stream restart their devices.
