Each year, Gandia brings its Fira i Festes to a close with one of its most heartfelt and time-honored traditions — the Procession in Honor of Sant Francesc de Borja, the city’s patron saint. In 2025, the procession will take place on October 6th at 20:00, serving as the grand finale of four unforgettable days filled with music, culture, and devotion.

Sant Francesc de Borja, born in Gandia in 1510, was once the Duke of Gandia before dedicating his life to the Jesuit order and rising to become its third Superior General. Canonized in 1671, he remains a powerful symbol of humility, faith, and service for the people of Gandia.

The celebration begins with a solemn Mass at the Insigne Colegiata, followed by the evening procession through the city’s historic heart. The revered image of the saint is carried through the streets with deep respect, accompanied by clergy, local dignitaries, music bands, and participants dressed in elegant traditional Valencian attire. Along the way, the procession pauses at some of Gandia’s most emblematic landmarks — including the Palau Ducal dels Borja, the Escola Pia, and the Real Monasterio de Santa Clara — where prayers, hymns, and traditional dances honor the saint’s legacy.

More than a religious observance, the procession stands as a living expression of Gandia’s identity — a unifying moment where faith, history, and community spirit intertwine. As the evening comes to a close, the celebration culminates in a breathtaking fireworks display over the Plaça Major, illuminating the skyline with color and light. Cada año, Gandia clausura su Fira i Festes con una de sus tradiciones más entrañables y antiguas: la Procesión en Honor a Sant Francesc de Borja, patrón de la ciudad. En 2025, la procesión tendrá lugar el 6 de octubre a las 20:00 h, poniendo el broche de oro a cuatro días inolvidables llenos de música, cultura y devoción.

Sant Francesc de Borja, nacido en Gandia en 1510, fue Duque de Gandia antes de dedicar su vida a la orden jesuita y llegar a ser su tercer Superior General. Canonizado en 1671, sigue siendo un poderoso símbolo de humildad, fe y servicio para los gandianos.

La celebración comienza con una misa solemne en la Insigne Colegiata, seguida de la procesión vespertina por el casco histórico de la ciudad. La venerada imagen del santo recorre las calles con profundo respeto, acompañada por clérigos, dignatarios locales, bandas de música y participantes ataviados con elegantes trajes tradicionales valencianos. A lo largo del recorrido, la procesión se detiene en algunos de los lugares más emblemáticos de Gandía, como el Palacio Ducal dels Borja, la Escuela Pía y el Real Monasterio de Santa Clara, donde oraciones, himnos y bailes tradicionales honran el legado del santo.
