The 71st Travessia al Port de Gandia took place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Grao area of Playa de Gandia, specifically at the well-known Varadero Beach. This annual sporting tradition is one of the most important open-water swimming competitions in the Valencian Community and attracts athletes, visitors, and holidaymakers to the vibrant Mediterranean coastline of Gandia.

The event features two exciting open-water races:

• LXXI Travessia al Port – 34th Damià Català Memorial, a classic 850-meter race designed for young swimmers, amateur athletes, and those looking for a shorter, more accessible challenge.

• XXII Volta a l’Escullera Nord – 12th José Mª Ángel “Pitet” Memorial, a demanding 2,600-meter swim that forms part of the Open Water Circuit of the Valencian Community, open to participants aged 14 and older.

The day begins at 9:00 a.m. with the Volta a l’Escullera Nord, which takes swimmers along the breakwater of Gandia’s port, offering a unique course that combines endurance, strategy, and the natural beauty of the Mediterranean. At 11:00 a.m., the Travessia al Port starts — an ideal race for emerging talents and recreational swimmers who want to experience the thrill of open-water competition.

The competition is organized by the Club Natació i Esports Gandia, with support from the Gandia City Council, the Valencian Swimming Federation (FNCV), the Fishermen’s Guild, the Grau District Board, the Port Authority, and the Real Club Náutico de Gandia. Timing is professionally managed by Crono4Sports, ensuring accuracy and fairness under official federation oversight.

The Travessia al Port de Gandia is not only about competition but also about celebrating community and sportsmanship. Trophies are awarded to the top three finishers in each category, along with special distinctions:

• Absolute male and female winners receive championship cups.

• Local swimmer trophies honor Gandia’s homegrown talent.

• Memorial awards commemorate Damià Català and José Mª Ángel “Pitet,” figures deeply linked to the event’s history.

• Additional recognition is given to the youngest and oldest participants, celebrating the wide age range of swimmers drawn to Gandia’s shores.

Playa de Gandia is one of the most famous beaches on the Costa de Valencia, known for its 7 kilometers of fine golden sand, clear Mediterranean waters, and vibrant seaside promenade lined with restaurants, cafés, and shops. La 71ª Travessia al Port de Gandia se celebró el viernes 15 de agosto de 2025 en la zona del Grao de la Playa de Gandia, concretamente en la conocida Playa del Varadero. Este evento deportivo anual es uno de los más destacados de la Comunidad Valenciana en natación en aguas abiertas y reúne a deportistas, visitantes y turistas en la costa mediterránea de Gandia.

El programa incluye dos pruebas de natación en aguas abiertas:

• LXXI Travessia al Port – 34º Memorial Damià Català, una prueba clásica de 850 metros pensada para nadadores jóvenes, aficionados y quienes buscan una distancia más accesible.

• XXII Volta a l’Escullera Nord – 12º Memorial José Mª Ángel “Pitet”, un exigente recorrido de 2.600 metros que forma parte del Circuito de Aguas Abiertas de la Comunidad Valenciana, abierto a nadadores a partir de los 14 años.

La jornada comienza a las 9:00 h con la Volta a l’Escullera Nord, que recorre el espigón del puerto de Gandia y ofrece un trazado único en el que se combinan resistencia, técnica y la belleza natural del Mediterráneo. A las 11:00 h tiene lugar la Travessia al Port, una prueba ideal para jóvenes promesas y nadadores recreativos que quieran vivir la experiencia de competir en aguas abiertas.

La competición está organizada por el Club Natació i Esports Gandia, con el apoyo del Ayuntamiento de Gandia, la Federación de Natación de la Comunidad Valenciana (FNCV), la Cofradía de Pescadores, la Junta del Distrito del Grau, la Autoridad Portuaria y el Real Club Náutico de Gandia. El cronometraje oficial corre a cargo de Crono4Sports, garantizando resultados precisos bajo la supervisión de la federación.

La Travessia al Port de Gandia no solo es una competición, sino también una fiesta del deporte y la comunidad. Se entregan trofeos a los tres primeros clasificados de cada categoría, además de premios especiales:

• Copas para los ganadores absolutos masculino y femenino.

• Trofeos para los nadadores locales, en reconocimiento al talento de Gandia.

• Premios conmemorativos en honor a Damià Català y José Mª Ángel “Pitet,” figuras históricas del evento.

• Reconocimiento al nadador más joven y al de mayor edad, reflejando la diversidad y el espíritu inclusivo de la travesía.

La Playa de Gandia es uno de los destinos más famosos de la Costa de Valencia, con 7 kilómetros de arena fina y dorada, aguas claras del Mediterráneo y un animado paseo marítimo repleto de restaurantes, cafés y comercios.
