Makes of popular satellite receivers being used in Spain are the Vu, Vu Duo+, Openbox, Skybox, GI and Iberosat.

Why are they popular? Well because they are used to card share, offer cheap access to pay TV channels from the likes of Sky UK.

Obviously these systems are highly illegally a fact which many “installers” of these system in Spain fail to tell their clients when installing them.

However a recent development means that users of these satellite receivers may soon lose all their Sky pay channels!! Again, something which installers in Spain are not mentioning to their clients.

Reports this past few week suggest that Sky Italia is currently down on satellite cardsharing systems.
Cardsharing is a system where you can link one viewing card to a network of receivers, usually paying customers via the internet, to enable the viewing of pay tv channel without an official viewing card.

As cardsharing, the sale or and use of, is illegal, pay TV channels are always trying to improve their security to try and prevent this.

The reports from Italy are that Sky Italia have changed their encryption algorithm. This change has meant the loss of Sky Italia channel on cardsharing systems.

The Danish police in Mid and West Zealand Police searched 15 homes in search of evidence of a card-sharing ring.

The search was carried out on Wednesday, August 13, with the assistance of the National Danish Police Tech Crime Section and took primarily place in Køge municipality and a few addresses in North Zealand.

The searches were carried out at the request of STOP – Nordic Content Protection, an anti-piracy association representing among others Canal Digital and Viasat.

The police said in a statement that the mastermind is living in Køge. He was charged with violation of Penal Code § 299 b paragraph. 6 of particularly serious violations of the Law on Radio and Television Broadcasting, as he illegally distributed encryption codes to 15 recipients.

Beneficiaries risk being fined up to 20,000 kr. For violation of the Act on Radio and Television Broadcasting, as well as a claim of similar size from the pay TV operators.

In the searches, large quantities of illegal encryption equipment was seized.

“Police is looking very seriously at this kind of misuse of IT equipment to illegally gain access to pay-TV,” according to Police Commissioner Niels Kristoffersen of the Department Economic Crime in Central & West Sealand Police, “In the future there will be more actions against this kind of networks, costing TV industry millions each year in lost subscription revenue.

The maximum penalty for card sharing is up to one-and-a-half years in prison, in particularly serious cases this could rise to six years in prison.

Earlier today yet another Sky pay channel changed encryption, meaning the loss of Sky One HD from cardsharing systems.

Sky One HD has GONE from card sharing systems.

This follows 8 other Sky HD channels, that are no longer available on cardsharing systems.

https://www.satandpcguy.com/blog/2014/05/sky-hd-channels-lost-cardsharing-systems-2/
https://www.satandpcguy.com/blog/2014/04/sky-hd-channels-lost-cardsharing-systems/

So the current list of Sky HD channels no longer available on cardsharing systems :

Sky One HD
Sky Atlantic HD
Sky Arts 1 HD
Sky Arts 2 HD
Sky Living HD
CI Crime HD
NatGeoWild HD
History HD
Nat Geo HD

But still, unbelievable, some satellite installers are still advertising and selling these systems – even though it is know that more and more Sky pay channels will be made unavailable on them in the next few weeks!

One thing to note is some installers may say “wait, they will be back soon”.
Doubtful.
The same encryption has been in use in Australia and Italy for a few years already – with no sign of their channels being returned to cardsharing systems. True, Sky UK may be more of a temptation for the hackers….but it may be a long wait…
